Malbec was the first table wine Bleasdale produced in 1961 and it has become the winery’s signature variety. Little wonder that this premium Malbec – called Mainsail, to acknowledge winery founder Frank Potts’ seafaring heritage – is now the celebration piece of the winery’s 175th anniversary. As Malbec can, it shows full-bodied intensity. However, after its stern black-fruited nose, the palate is surprisingly smooth and supple throughout the luxurious, lengthy ride through amplified flavours of blackberry, blackcurrant, mulberry, boysenberry and a hint of black olive. The muscular tannin profile suggests this cohesive melody will be sustained throughout a long cellaring journey.
