Mark Bulman put Grenache on Australia's vinous map in 2017 when he became the first person to win the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for a Grenache. Now the ex-Turkey Flat winemaker has released the first bottles under his own label: two wines made in the same way, avoiding oxygen throughout the entire process, to showcase the terroir of two unique sites. Glen’s Vineyard is named for Glen Monagahan, custodian of a dry-farmed site planted in 1857 in the Eden Valley on loam, clay and sandstone. It has a more savoury edge than it's twin Gary's Vineyard from Blewitt Springs, with graphite minerality and slatey tannins chasing lifted purple-hued fruit, lightly sprinkled with white pepper spice. Fresh and so expressive: what a debut!
