In 2012, Hoffmann and Ringland reckoned a parcel of Mataro warranted bottling solo. Initially shy on the nose, with air it reveals a pronounced vanilla scent. In the mouth the dark prune fruit is surprisingly pulpy and juicy - like Armagnac-soaked Agen prunes, but without the spirit. Bitter chocolate, espresso, tamarind and molasses emerge, before mouthcoating tannins rise on a bony, slightly salty, occluded finish. Currently unresolved, but lots of potential. Aged in old French oak.
