Seeking maximum concentration from the darkest, deepest-coloured purple fruit, this captures power and intensity without excessive weight – quite a nice trick, and significantly removed from the old-fashioned Barossa style. The iodine-soaked blackberry is supple and luscious despite its fierce coalition of assertive black earth, raspberry and blackcurrant providing curious accents. Velvety tannins and a long acid seam make for an exceptionally smooth ride across the mid-palate. Closed at the finish and brooding at this stage of its life, it has many intriguing years ahead in the cellar.
