With sublime aromas, a beautiful ruby plum colour, inviting flavours and still retaining a firm, taut structure, it’s no surprise that Wynns has twice featured the Childs vineyard, planted in 1969, in its Single Estate programme. Featured a decade apart, in 2012 and 2022, the Childs wines show distinctive common characteristics – dark scents of plums, chocolate, blackberry, olive, red earth and mahogany, bound by tight webs of dusty tannin. It’s clever that a medium-bodied palate holds such deep intensity without seeming laboured, showing both substance and restraint.
