Serious pursuit of excellence in the vineyard has brought out finely-drawn vinous features rarely captured in Australian Pinot Noir. The complex aromas are beguiling – dark cherry riding a see-saw with sharp raspberry, but also smouldering embers of charred vine canes. It’s complex, concentrated and intense, but flexed muscle in the mid-palate doesn’t show any unnecessary weight. A clear, deliberate acid line binds and carries the long flavour lines with ease, shaped by fine, stony tannins that only pull taut at the finish. Once the wine has drained, the nuances persist – suggesting it will show at its best at least five years ahead.
