This is the Syrah I've been trying to make for 14 years,' says Luke Lambert – and it was worth the wait. It's a benchmark example of cool-climate Syrah from the Yarra Valley, grown in the volcanic soils of Tibooburra Vineyard, one of Yarra's coolest micro-climates. 2016 was a warmer than average year, so Lambert used 70% whole-bunch fermentation to add structure to the final wine. It has a vibrant nose of red berries, pomegranate and black olive, with a good depth of red and black berry fruits on the palate, balanced by eucalyptus and black pepper notes. It's underpinned by fine tannins and a fresh mineral streak, with a violet lift on the finish. Accomplished and delicious. Organic but not certified.
