A very neat nose with the corners tucked in; give it time to unfurl. Blackcurrant, blackberry leaf, inky candied violets, liquorice root, black olive, tobacco and bay leaf. A luscious palate, full, with fine, firm, plentiful tannins. A structural Cabernet, considered and complete, with silvery acidity weaving through both fruit and oak tannins, and that fruit just envelopes it all. Plenty here to age, or give it a solid decant if drinking in its youth. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a single 31-year-old vineyard in Wallcliffe. Aged for 18 months in French oak barriques, 25% new.
