A glorious, fresh and vibrant nose: freeze-dried strawberries, cranberries, sun-dried hay, just-ripe cherry and an undercurrent of black fruits, along with morello cherry, vanilla sugar cookie and molten dark chocolate. Balanced reduction and oak, this also delivers graphite, Marmite, nori, bacon fat, bresaola and damp potting mix. The palate displays wonderful intensity of fruit and a lively yet measured, whisk-like acidity and gossamer tannins, wet terracotta, dried herbs and bunched spice. Just delicious, there is so much granite minerality; it’s a joy and pure Porongurup. An honest wine with a great core of fruit and masterful winemaking. 30-year-old vines.
