Flint and stuck match open into an inviting mix of pastry shell, golden pear, lemon drop and cut stalk, laced with baking spice and charry delight. On the palate, a firm creaminess with plenty of phenolic grip paired with a confident Gingin acid drive. The warmth of the year is on show with curvaceous fruit in the stonefruit spectrum, yet there’s plenty of tension keeping this alert for action. Nic Peterkin is one of the region’s trailblazing winemakers, and while it’s his impressive craftwork with lesser-known grape varieties that have cemented his name on wine lists, it would be sacrilege not to have at least one expression of Chardonnay in the portfolio. Fruit is from 25-year-old Gingin-clone vines, whole-bunch pressed with 50% fermented and aged in an assortment of different amphorae and 50% in oak, both for 10 months.
