A bit of bottle age here. Shy at first, the nose grows with time in glass to reveal vanillin, spice-laden oak, then lovely, dried and crushed petals, deep black plum, a hint of umami seaweed, oodles of cocoa powder and lovely sweetness of fruit. The knitted, intense palate is fresh and zippy, displaying black plum skin, graphite shavings, Black Cat lolly, clove, and a dark, broody undertone lifted by the acidity. Pleasurable and old-school in style, the tannins are fine and pleasantly mouthcoating. Vibrant, yet sturdy like a leather Chesterfield.
