The Malat winery, and most of its vineyards, lie on the south side of the Danube on varied soils. 10 years ago Peter Malat took over from his renowned father Gerald, and the wines seem to have gained in focus in recent years. Gottschelle is a fairly flat loess site. The nose is still subdued but displays spicy appley aromas. It's rich and severe, still backward, with minerality, bite, and depth of flavour. The fruit expression is still masked but this is an imposing wine with good ageing potential.
