A textbook, elegant expression of Carmenère, structured and poised, with prune, dried tobacco leaf, cocoa nibs, dark chocolate and coffee beans underpinned by roasted tomatoes and grilled bell peppers. This intense smokiness and savouriness is further brought to the forefront by a touch of pencil shavings and graphite. The character of the cool 2010 vintage really comes through in the wine’s herbaceousness which is offset by the sweet quality of the plum and blueberry fruit. Long finish with lingering dried herbs, tobacco leaf and forest floor. The broad-shouldered tannins will still benefit from some time in bottle.
