Long based in Cachapoal, in 2011 La Roncière took the plunge and developed an ambitious estate in coastal Curicó – further south, further west and altogether cooler and more marginal. The results have been stunning, delivering value as well as charm, and a new dimension in Chilean reds. Its Cabernet is all about scent and drinkability. Peter Richards MW: Wonderful freshness of pristine dark and red fruit, roasted red pepper and leafy hints. Proper Cabernet DNA! Peppery, fresh style, foodie and understated. Not the most concentrated, perhaps, but certainly classy. Ben Gubbins: This is all you want from a value Cabernet: typicity, character, style, and it’s not overdone. Andrew Johnson: Leafy and lifted cassis fruit nose. Good varietal typicity, with notes of green pepper and plenty of minty character throughout.
