This skin-contact Semillon from old vines in Maule is a compelling example of how South America’s growing orange wine movement can over-deliver on both character and drinkability. Bouchon has long been one of the leaders in Chile’s old-vine Semillon renaissance, and this is among the best-value wines in its portfolio. The coastal Semillon is fermented and aged in ceramic amphorae, spending 12 months on the skins, with no added sulphur. Amanda Barnes MW: Intense and complex nose, garrigue, orange peel and bergamot leading to a flavoursome and complex palate with a light grip. Delicious and engaging. Eugenio Egorov: Hints of quince, orange blossom, camomile and saffron. Great freshness and structure with good complexity and balance. Ben Gubbins: Spiced apricot, bergamot, notes of grass and tarte tatin. Nice grip, lovely acidity to balance the intense flavours. Candied citrus skin on the finish. Daring and fun.
