This old-vine Maule Semillon showcases both the character of the variety and the value South America can offer in this increasingly important category in Chile’s Secano Interior region. Morandé has also made Maule a growing focus in recent years. It is the region where founder Pablo Morandé was born, although he became better known for his pioneering work in Casablanca. The wine is made predominantly in stainless steel, with a proportion aged in concrete egg tanks. Amanda Barnes MW: Beautifully intense nose grassy character and lots of citrus zest; vibrant and racy with a touch of sweetness to balance the high acid. Delicious. Eugenio Egorov: Nose of grapefruit juice, red apple skins and white flowers. Great complexity and freshness with a good structure. Ben Gubbins: Herbaceous, green-fruit nose. Light but expressive, with a touch of almond along with the citrus. Good tension here, and a gradual citrus finish.
