Vigno is a collaborative project that centres on the dry-grown, old-vine Carignan found in Maule. Undurraga’s 2020 from Sauzal is 92% Carignan and 8% Cinsault, both from vines planted in the 1950s. Grapes are destemmed and given a seven-day maceration followed by fermentation in steel tanks, then two weeks of post-fermentation maceration before the wine is pressed into 5,000L French oak foudres, where it ages for 16 months. Alistair Cooper MW: Great typicity here: leather, cola, spice, earthy notes. Fine and detailed tannins, beautiful bright acidity, kirsch and cedar notes and a long, salty finish. Dirceu Vianna Junior MW: Forward and expressive, cassis and dark cherries, dark chocolate and spice. Excellent concentration, sophisticated firm tannins and crisp acidity. David Williams: Ripe, fruit-pastille aromas and a darker, denser feel to the palate. Blackberry fruit, energy and succulence: not overripe, and has no extraneous oak. Great liquorice-edged finish.
