Three generations of the Deklić family are rightly proud of their new winery in the highly regarded wine village of Vižinada. Their 25ha of vines grow on deep rusty-red soils over limestone at 300m and are in conversion to organics. David Deklić is the oenologist and runs the winery today with siblings Dino and Lucija, while grandad Konstantin still tends the vines, having first started aged nine. This 100% Teran is produced from low yields of about 35hl/ha, spontaneous fermentation and 12-15 months in barriques and 500-litre casks. Caroline Gilby MW: Opaque. Liquorice, sloe and vanilla nose. Rich and full to taste, with cooked black fruit, grainy but big tannin backbone and harmonious acidity. Ana Jackson MW: Rich, dense nose: vanilla, evolving spiced fruit. Palate is full, with bold tannins, savoury herbs, mocha and black fruits. Igor Luković: Ripe fruits, a little jammy, dark chocolate and minty notes. Nice structure. Juicy with sweet spices, ripe berries. Smoky finish.
