Schlumberger owns 20ha of the 26ha Kitterlé grand cru. Situated on an impressive rocky spur with slopes approaching 60%, and three different exposures to the southeast, south and southwest, its Vosges sandstone soils impart a singular mineral signature, while the unique touch derived from its volcanic components and poor fertility adds exceptional tension to the Riesling. The house style, preserved by winemaker Alain Freyburger, masterfully marries power with finesse, producing distinguished wines built for extensive cellar ageing. Thierry Meyer: Crushed stone and spice aromas, hints of grapefruit skin. Fresh palate, medium-bodied, still youthful with clean acidity and a long, salty finish. Vincenzo Arnese: Great intensity on the nose, very ripe. Has structure and body, with a direct and rich approach yet fresh and intense. Still lively and enjoyable. Claire Thevenot MS: Punchy and intensely aromatic: dried spices, burnt lemon, a savoury, gastronomic style. Dressed to impress. Drink now or keep another 10 years.
