Founded in 1810 and based in Guebwiller, Domaines Schlumberger is led by seventh-generation siblings Séverine and Thomas, with their uncle Alain Freyburger as winemaker. As Alsace’s largest estate, it spans 140ha in all, distinguished by vertiginous slopes – including 70ha of grand cru. The family reigns over four predominantly sandstone terroirs: Kessler, Kitterlé, Saering and Spiegel. In recent years, the domaine has pivoted towards greater precision and tension, masterfully sublimating the elegant, mineral expression of its sandstone soils. Thierry Meyer: Fresh, stony and citrus-like nose with strong intensity. Palate has a lemony austerity but with great freshness. Complex, a wine to cellar. Vincenzo Arnese: Lemon zest, grapefruit and pomelo nose. Peach and white apricot, a note of beeswax, elevated acidity and rich body. Impressive and elegant wine. Claire Thevenot MS: Juicy and smoky with fleshy pêche de vigne and apricot notes. Vertiginous minerality. Good depth and herbal tones.
