Although the oak is initially very prominent (Bellevue-Mondotte is aged for 24 months in 100% new casks), the underlying fruit has a lush, plummy brightness that carries through on the palate, with slightly angular tannins, admirable density, and impressive length. This wine was a favourite with many tasters, although some felt the cask ageing was overdone. It is a substantial wine, and one hopes that with time, the oak will continue to integrate.
