Hubert de Boüard is consultant at this estate - the Margaux offshoot of Cambon La Pelouse. Their main estate lost 30% to frost this year, but L'Aura was spared and had a healthy yield of around 45hl/ha. They put a little more Cabernet than usual in the blend this year, as it ripened better than the Merlot (the September rains had something to do with that, and it's a story you hear regularly in the Médoc). This has a tightness to the tannins, as you would expect, and some austerity. The fruit structure is dark, the tannins present but not drying. It lacks a little in terms of layers and complexity, but there's an awful lot to like about it, and it's definitely a success in the vintage. There's just that touch of under ripeness on the final furlong that pulls it up. Aged in 100% new oak.
