Silky and forward, the 2009 Cheval boasts a ripe, plummy fruit character with notes of violets, saddle leather, Havana cigars, and an undercurrent of dark chocolate. The texture is expressive and delicious, with an exuberance that belies the brooding power underneath the hood. Approachable and beckoning, this is a wine with massive potential for ageing; ideally, one would wait another five to ten years, and drink over the next 50. Aged 16 – 20 months in new casks.
