With some of the harvest picked after late August rainfall – and a majority of Merlot in the blend – this wine has some of the highest alcohol for the vintage, and yet it is a bit schizophrenic: The palate evinces tangy steeliness along with Merlot–driven aromatics of dark chocolate and ripe plum. The low pH – 3.35 – reflects energy and acidity. Let's see how it will perform after the full barrel–ageing process (50% new oak).
