Château des Eyrins is a small 2.9ha estate owned by Julie and Xavier Gonet-Médeville since 2009. This 2011 has plenty of evident fruit on the nose, with smoky touches emerging as it opens up. This is backed up by creamy damson and cassis though the palate. It's starting to brick in colour a little around the edges, suggesting we are already in the drinking window. It's really rather lovely and good quality, with a firm texture, well melted tannins and good integrity to the pure, juicy fruit. There's no need to wait to drink it, but it feels like it could hold on for a good decade. Aged in 50% oak, 50% stainless steel.
