Black and red berry aromas mingle with floral notes and stemmy nuances, promising complexity on the palate. The wine opens with a brisk attack and initially supple tannins, but quickly turns more assertive, evoking freshly picked grape skins as the structure tightens into (almost) a clenched fist. With time in the glass, however, the tannins begin to reveal underlying quality, hinting at the benefits of extended élevage, likely to soften and harmonize over some 20 months in barrel - longer than average because this vintage needs that extended aging. The finish remains firm for now, but the pedigree of the tannins is evident here.
