Owned by the Despagne family for more than two centuries across seven generations, Grand Corbin-Despagne lies near Château Cheval Blanc on the northern border of St-Emilion, approaching Pomerol. The vineyard features clay and sand soils with iron oxide deposits. François Despagne currently manages the estate with deep respect for ancestral traditions: no weedkiller has ever been used, the property has been fully organic since 2013 and biodynamic practices are being progressively introduced alongside massal selection for replantings. Georgie Hindle: Gorgeous, heady – cola, blackcurrant, liquorice and rose. Not as sunkissed as some, or as chewy, this has body but is more agile. Tar and tobacco on the finish. Arthur Coggill: Lovely depth to the ripe Petits-Filous berry nose, with well-judged oak. Generous mouthfeel yet it’s still fresh and zippy. Chewy tannins carry the warm finish. Tom King: Rich wood tones balanced against cherry and redcurrant fruit, and an attractive leafiness. Velvety tannins provide completeness now, though it should keep for many years.
