Punchy and powerful, this has a spicy underdone from the start, the Petit Verdot playing a part in the spice and savoury elements while the blackcurrants and cherries are edged by dark chocolate, liquorice and black pepper giving quite a savoury focus. This has a nice energy to it and feels well worked, nothing too much or out of place but letting the grapes, terroir and vintage speak. I like it, it's intense and there's lots going on, I also love the gentle sweetness and the sticky liquorice. It's not quite ready to drink, the tannins are ripe, massy and overpowering, but they have a nice texture, it may offer more pleasure in another year or two. Still, it's very good quality.
