Cork

Dark cherry and a lick of new leather, with savoury herbal accents. Ripe and medium-bodied, reflecting the warm vintage, the palate is densely structured and tightly coiled, with fine-grained tannins and a mid-length finish. Not the most elegant Pinot, but its rusticity is lively and satisfying. From nearby Chassagne, Antonin and Jean-Marc Battault blend hand-picked fruit from six lieux-dits on south-facing clay-limestone, with vines planted from 1957; a cold soak, indigenous yeasts in concrete, 14 months in 400-litre barrels.
