Firmly tannic and somewhat forbidding, this restrained wine opens with time to show blackcurrant and fig aromas and an exotic, lifted note that gives it a slightly rustic edge. The texture, however, is silky and despite the volume, the wine is balanced and fresh. The grapes come from a parcel that faces east/southeast; they are destemmed and given a cold soak before fermentation on native yeasts and ageing 16 months in cask (35% new).
