Maranges is the last major village of the Côte de Beaune and is currently undergoing a resurgence with various younger winemakers. With some vineyards dominated by clay, others have higher incidence of limestone leading to fresher, more refined wines. Bertrand Bachelet makes a very elegant red here with precise acidity, focussed redcurrant and cherry flavours on the palate, a subtle hint of sous-bois, refined oak and plenty of acidity. This will improve over the next 18-24 months.
