Maranges

Medium

Cork

Shimmering crimson. Crunchy pomegranate and red cherry over wet stone on the nose, with hints of rosemary, white pepper and Chinese five-spice; floral perfume emerges with air. Young and tight, the palate pairs bright acidity with powdery tannins, though green, stemmy notes crowd the slender fruit of an underripe vintage. Mid-length and a touch austere. Pablo and Vincent Chevrot work their 0.19ha of steep rows – the soils chalky colluvium studded with chert over Lias marl – by hand and horse.
