Located just opposite the grand cru slopes, Raveneau's 2.5-hectare holding of premier cru Montée de Tonnerre produces wines often at the same level as the grand crus. The 1996 vintage is now beginning to open up, as the once-bracing acidity has softened with time, and the sweet lime peel and mineral nose is beginning to take on nuances of candle wax and hay. Incisively fresh yet still very rich on the palate, this has the balance and power to age for decades to come.
