At a dinner with friends in Taipei, a ’69 Richebourg from Jean Gros purchased from a German cellar was in perfect condition. The wine was mature but elegant, with ripe plum and fig fruit along with notes of earth, barnyard, anise, and a hint of gunpowder on the nose that, with time, developed hints of bacon and peppery spice. The texture was still fleshy and powerful, with full body, a dense, velvety feel, and impressive persistence on the palate. This superb wine still incredibly has time to go.
