The cuvée called Les Impénitents from Louis-Claude Desvignes is the dizzying peak of an impressive mountain of quality at this estate, with a combination of bright, forward mulberry fruit and a hint of fresh flowers that expands on the palate to suggest earth, cocoa and ground coffee. The texture is dense, almost chewy, but with enough freshness to help it jump from the glass. The grapes are from a parcel more than 100 years of age in the Javernières section of Côte de Py; fermented mostly as whole bunches (95%) with a 10-day maceration before ageing in concrete. Great wine.
