This impressive wine is putatively the ‘regular’ Volnay (instead of the Vendanges Selectionnées bottling), but it is a lovely expression of the village, with a compellingly delicious fruit character of black plums touched with exotic spice and earth. The texture is supple and approachable, beginning to open nicely, and there is enough substance to carry the wine to a complex, lingering finish. The grapes are from six sites spread throughout the village, gently destemmed and fermented before ageing in mainly used casks to yield this delightful wine.
