Hedonistically approachable now, this boasts powerful aromas of red and black fruits with nuance that ranges from flowers to mineral, smoke, spice, and leather. The texture is dense yet supple and the finish is gratifyingly long. The grapes come from a plot near the bottom of the slope on the border with Aloxe in land that was a marsh before it was drained (hence the name). Mallard has 30 ares of sixty-year-old vines in two parcels in addition to a parcel in the premier cru part of Maréchaudes.
