A bottle of the 2020 Clos du Roy was among the most complete wines at a recent Marsannay tasting, boasting lush, ripe aromas of spicy blackberry and mulberry fruit with an edge of bramble and earth. The wine is starting to open on the palate, although it is still youthful and primary, and will continue to improve for decades to come. The grapes are from 2ha of old vines in Chenove; they are entirely fermented as whole clusters and were given 18 months in barrel before bottling to produce this outstanding wine.
