In 2016, Clerget produced three barrels (one of them new) of Clos Vougeot from his holdings in the Grand Maupertuis. The wine was more backward and primary than the Côte de Beaune reds when I tasted it in October, opening in the glass with notes of creamy black fruit, liquorice, incense and spice. It is full-bodied and ample, with bright, juicy acidity and fine but firm tannins. This still needs some time in barrel to come together.
