Sublime. Negociant J. Thorin held the lease on the Marey-Monge vineyards in Romanée-St-Vivant prior to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.  At this point they were at the height of their powers.  The colour is pale ruby going tawny at the edge, yet the nose opened with a surprisingly youthful mix of black plum and fig, exotic spices, smoke and mineral notes and no indication of forest floor or mushroom.  The texture is silky and supremely elegant, with the tannins melting into the extract and the acidity appearing to round out, but the wine stays in perfect balance to its lingering, harmonious finish.
