Agnès Corbon makes just one barrel-fermented cuvée from her fine Chardonnay vineyards in Avize, and it's a beautiful example of how some of the more exotic, fragranced Chardonnay of the village can play along with oak. The effect is more towards toasted almonds, lemon jam and sourdough than anything spicy or buttery, amplifying the fruit with a lick of waxy richness while retaining much of the drive and purity of the vintage. It's a layered, enticing and immediately delicious Champagne that will nevertheless develop well over the next five years.
