A 60/40 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend that is still youthful, with pronounced ripe pear fruit, hints of marzipan and smoke, and a floral edge. It is a muscular, classic style from the Aube that richly merits more attention. The base wines were fermented in tank and a few large oak uprights; the texture is structured and vinous but not heavy, and lingers pleasantly on the finish. Although it is drinking well now, this wine will certainly last at least another 20 years in a good cellar.
