Giraud’s ‘entry level’ wine has charm and drinkability, but a lighter character than the rest of the range – it’s more of an aperitif style. The current blend is based on the 2017 harvest, with around 30% drawn from the ‘perpetual reserve’. A blend of 80% Pinot Noir to 20% Chardonnay, it’s all barrique vinified, but third- to fifth-use barrels, so the oak is less prominent. Straw yellow with a gentle mousse, it’s invitingly savoury with aromas of dried fruits and light oxidative notes, plus a supple, creaminess on the palate. Disgorged: July 2021. Dosage: 6g/L.
