This is immediately striking, showing a lifted, high-toned fragrance characteristic of 2004 while also appearing nuanced, resonant and complete. Its ripe depth of fruit is inextricably intertwined with notes of briny chalk, feeling darkly smoky and iodine-like, and it’s complemented by a marvellous, suede-like texture, richer than silk but no less fine. This is excellent, and still downright adolescent – it should enjoy a long and slow development for years to come, continuing to gain complexity and depth. The finish is superb, going on and on in chalk-driven fragrance.
