Cuvée Lalou shows well in the tight and cool 2013 vintage, which follows on from the maturing 2008 with a wine that requires some patience. Bittersweet roasted lemon rind, greengage and demerara sugar sit with some sweet strawberry Pinot; the palate is snappy and neat rather than hugely intense or dramatic. Tuned reductively, with some charry, white pepper and powdered ginger top notes, it's a compact Lalou that will show best with at least another two years on cork. From grands crus in the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, all vinified in stainless steel with malolactic fermentation.
