It wasn't easy to pick a favourite with a line-up of five stellar vintages, and the ’79, ’85, and ’88 were all compelling.  In the end, I was utterly won over by the 1985, which seemed oddly less evolved than the 1988.  The colour had begun to deepen into gold.  However, there was still abundant mousse, and the nose still had fresh ripe apple aromas that are taking on a buttery richness without deepening into caramel yet.  The texture is lush and dense but not heavy at all.  Although this is drinking well now, it is not in danger of decline.
