Ruinart's Blanc Singulier is very deliberately not a classical, crisp style of blanc de blancs, but rather an imaginative attempt to re-think Chardonnay in a changing climate with its riper aromatics. Indeed it is 2019's compact, almost forceful ripeness that plays centre stage in this cuvée, made approachable with some juicy, fragrant fruit – white peach, yellow apple and papaya and the vintage's characteristic drive of fresh, accelerating orange citrus acidity. Shape and form are all in place – this still feels a little nascent and will likely broaden its range with a little further time on cork. Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, Sézanne and Petit Morin, based on 2019 with 23% reserve wines.
