Tasting 1990 La Grande Dame from magnum and from jeroboam side by side was a revelatory exercise. This was from magnum and it had beautifully sumptuous notes of quince paste, dark honey and tinned mandarin, with a deep rumbling undercurrent of chalk and minerals. This was then swept up in a dark wash of brine and sea shells, wet rocks and fresh earth. Still lively and energising.
