Veuve Fourny are arguably the most creative and consistent producer highlighting Vertus right now, and 'R' is a case in point; by combining the 2017 and 2016 vintages with a prominent oak-aged character, the open-stanced fruit of the village is rendered in full aromatic colour; apple compote, maple butter and sweet spices seem dedadent, but there's a beautiful sweet citric drive on the palate, plush but wonderfully smooth in mousse and texture.
