Deep ruby with violet edges, this Corsican red opens with a seductive and complex nose of wild dark cherry, anise and iodine layered with Chinese five spice, graphite and a distinct waft of Corsican maquis. The palate entry is smooth and generous, ripe blackberry and sweet tobacco riding a firm but supple frame of fine-grained, sandy tannins, before fresh-brewed coffee, wild thyme and white pepper gather on the mid-palate. The heady finish is lifted by airborne herbs and iron-tinged minerality. Medium in length but with deep presence, a Corsican vino di meditazione with one foot in France, another in Italy, yet of a Mediterranean identity entirely its own. A truly beautiful wine from the Île de Beauté.
